Mod-Block-DDR Consortium meeting in Berlin

The second consortium meeting of the joint project "Mod-Block-DDR" was held at the TU Berlin on September 16, 2019. The participants who represented seven subprojects talked about their research progress and discussed preparations for two conferences in 2020 that will mark the 30th anniversary of the German reunification.

The Mod-Block-DDR project seeks to identify obstacles to the state socialist modernization in the economy and science of the GDR, to analyse their impact on the past real economic development and to demonstrate their continuing effect on the socio-economic disparities between the old and new federal states. The project adopts a comparative perspective, including both national and international comparisons, e.g. with the countries in Eastern Central Europe. The working group of Prof. Dr. Rochlitz is associated with the Mod-Block-DDR network that involves the University of Bremen (consortium leader), the Technical University of Berlin, the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). The project is financed by the BMBF and led by Prof. Dr. Jutta Günther.
