"I am very happy about this news," says the director of the college, Professor Peter Maaß. "It means we can continue our work with planning security." The DFG Research Training Group, entitled "Parameter Identification: Analysis, Algorithms, Applications (Pi³)," is currently training 18 international doctoral students for the academic and non-academic job market. The graduates of the first cohort are meanwhile continuing their careers in industry and research. They work, for example, at the University of Cambridge, Fraunhofer MEVIS or in the field of management consulting. Professor Jutta Günther, Vice-Rector for Research, Young Scientists and Transfer at the University of Bremen, congratulates Professor Maaß and his team: "This Research Training Group makes an important contribution to the promotion of our young researchers at the University of Bremen. Here, science and further qualification take place at a high level."
Mathematical qualification and the promotion of scientific independence are the guiding principles of the DFG Research Training Group. The newly developed methods in the Research Training Group will be used as examples for the optimization of carburetor systems in automotive engineering, for the analysis of biological molecules from mass spectrometric data, and for the optical analysis of fiber structures. To keep up with current scientific developments, there are now four research areas at the Research Training Group: Dynamic Inverse Problems, Direct Optimization, Mathematical Data Analysis, and Statistics. A characteristic feature of the projects of the new cohorts is the high proportion of artificial intelligence methods that are analyzed, optimized and adapted for the respective application.
About the Center for Technomathematics (ZeTeM)
The Center for Technomathematics (ZeTeM) is a mathematical research center with a focus on applications in engineering and life sciences. Using modern methods of applied mathematics, the entire process of problem solving is undertaken - from modeling and mathematical analysis to the development of software and simulations. Cooperative projects with partners from industry and science are strongly integrated into research and student education at ZeTeM.
