Three MAPEX members part of new DFG Reserach Unit

„Ultrasonic Monitoring of Fibre Metal Laminates Using Integrated Sensors“

The propagation of ultrasonic waves in fiber-metal laminates and their interaction with defects in the material by means of built-in sensors are the focus of the joint project. With a holistic physical approach, the 13 subproject leaders aim at a complete automated defect diagnosis and will contribute to a deeper understanding of wave propagation in layered material systems.

The DFG Reserach Unit is coordinated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Sinapius from TU Braunschweig. Four of the subproject leaders come from the University of Bremen, with Dr.-Ing. Axel von Hehl, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel S. Herrmann and Prof. Dr. WalterLang three MAPEX members are involved. The MAPEX X-ray microscope will also be used intensively in a subproject within the scope of defect characterization and classification.
