The FSO was founded in 1982 and is an independent research institute, which is closely connected to the University of Bremen. The institute is primarily focusing on the analysis of current developments of the societies of East and East-Central Europe. A central theme of its present interdisciplinary research is therefore the post-socialist transition – a research area in which Jutta Günther has been active as an economist for many years.
