In the summer semester 2015, the orchestra & choir of the University of Bremen had played and sang music from Latin America for the first time. Everybody had enjoyed this program so much that only one year later, 2016, both ensembles produced a sequel. The classical music of Latin America is so overwhelming in its great variety and wealth that one semester is not at all sufficient to discover it. A special highlight was the European premiere of the breath-taking orchestra composition „Caribeña“ in the presence of its composer Miguel del Águila.

The City of Bremen is proud that Brahms' Requiem had its premiere here in 1868. Nearly forgotten was the fact that the musically related but secular "Odysseus" by Max Bruch also started its career here. Universally beloved in the 19th century, it was only rarely performed since 1900. Orchestra & choir of the University of Bremen brought it back to the city after 120 years.

The ensembles practiced separately, but performed together in the same concerts. The orchestra played among other pieces Arturo Márquez' much beloved Danzón No. 2, the choir sung the premiere of “Caissa’s Mind”, a choral cycle of eight tangos for chorus and piano, which Juan María Solare composed especially for the University Bremen Chorus. Moreover, guests from the University Bremen Tango Orchestra and the Pop-Chorus from the Art Academy took part in the concert, contributing music inspired by South and Central America.
