Research and Junior Scientists
Science in Bremen means intensive and interdisciplinary cooperation. Together, the scientists of all institutions work on fundamental and application-oriented questions with great significance for the future of society and the economy. They complement each other in their strengths.
The partners of the U Bremen Research Alliance agree on technical features, longer-term research interests and strategically important projects. They set up joint bridges and cooperative professorships. Many of the scientific staff members of the non-university partners in the U Bremen Research Alliance sponsor the faculties of the University of Bremen. They are thus also open to the offers of the university young talent center BYRD. In addition, they also design graduate programs and junior research groups to promote young scientists.

The scientific focus is on the role of the ocean, the polar regions and the atmosphere with regard to global change, both in geological past and in the present. The core of this area is the DFG Research Center and Cluster of Excellence MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, the Institute for Environmental Physics (IUP) and BreMare (Bremen Marine Ecology - Center for Research & Education). The MAPEX Center for Materials and Processes covers the entire process chain for material development and application, from material synthesis and processing, through manufacturing processes and component design to analysis, characterization and property and function testing. The focus is on five disciplines of the University of Bremen as well as numerous institutions within and outside the university. The aim of the scientific focus is to improve the understanding of intelligence and cognition in autonomous agents in the context of mediatised worlds. The findings are translated into a new generation of social, computer-based, and cyber-physical systems that contribute substantially to the well-being of our society. In doing so, humans should decide about the use of their data and their digital aura. The focus is on six disciplines at the University of Bremen as well as on numerous in-and-non-university institutions.
