Fraunhofer Institute for Mediacal Image Computing MEVIS
Embedded in a worldwide network of clinical and academic partners, Fraunhofer MEVIS develops practical software systems for image-based screening, diagnosis and therapy. The focus is on cancer, cardiovascular, brain, breast, liver and lung disorders. The aim is to recognize diseases earlier and more safely, to tailor treatments individually to the patient and to make therapy success measurable.
Fraunhofer MEVIS works closely with medical technology and pharmaceutical companies, and is pursuing the entire innovation chain from applied research to the certified medical device. Fraunhofer MEVIS is associated with five universities: the University of Bremen, Jacobs University, the University of Lübeck, Radboud University Nijmegen and Harvard University. Since 2011, Fraunhofer MEVIS has been operating its own 3-Tesla magnetic resonance tomograph at the University of Bremen.
MEVIS was founded in 1995 as a non-profit research center at the University of Bremen. Since January 2009, it has been an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the leading organization for applied research in Europe.
