The project will last for 5 year, is co-funded by the European Union through the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, and brings together industry, research institutions, innovative SMEs and sectoral experts. The consortium brings together 27 partners from more than 16 countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Peru, Australia, Canada, Nigeria and Japan. Amid 27 institutional partners, the Bremen’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation coordinates the project. The project will mobilize €70 million in investment, and will be assessed via Social, technical, environmental and safety impacts shared through the Hydrogen Valleys observatory platform.
Description:
The H2B:IMPACT project will implement and consolidate a flagship Hydrogen Valley in the Federal State of Bremen. It will demonstrate the integration of five innovative end-use testbeds across the mobility, construction, logistics and industrial sectors. It will be built on top of an existing mature ecosystem. The project will deploy 25.1 MW of new electrolysis capacity and produce more than 3,600 tons of renewable hydrogen per year, and deploy three complete value chains covering production, distribution, and end-use, setting an initial demand for at least 1,500 tons.
This project will conduct ambitious techno-economic research, establish links with six replicator valleys and four observer valleys, and integrate a comprehensive Social Sciences and Humanities program to maximize societal impact and engagement. It will also provide training for professionals, students and public officials on hydrogen safety and project outcomes and develop scale-up plans.
There are 16 Working packages, and University of Bremen in Involved in two, WP5 (Safe and Responsible Deployment - Market analysis, social acceptance, socio-technical vulnerability, safety, regulation and business models. It covers also demand forecasting and workforce considerations) and WP 14 (Scale-Up and Replication - Future hydrogen demand, infrastructure expansion, investments strategies and the 2050 roadmap and international replication).
