Duration: May to November 2018
Project costs must be claimed by November 11, 2018!
In the frame of the University’s "Institutional Strategy", additional special funds for humanities scholars will again be available in 2018. The aim is to promote researchers at all levels (doctoral candidates, postdocs, professors). To this end, swift and uncomplicated funding is available for research activities and conference trips in amounts of up to € 5,000 per person (doctoral candidates € 1,500 per person). A particular focus is on activities that lead to networking (local, national, international), the preparation of applications for third-party funding as well as research projects aimed at international publications. In the case of conferences, international conferences that contribute to the visibility of research in Bremen will be given priority.
In contrast to the regular procedure, applications by doctoral candidates can also be submitted at any time via the application forms CRDF 01 Impulse and CRDF 02 Conference Participation.
Scientists at the University of Bremen can receive special funds for small-scale projects in a comparably quick and uncomplicated procedure: Doctoral students can apply for support of activities that clearly contribute to an added value within the context of their PhD, such as participation in summer schools, research sojourns at renowned institutions, additional experiments, interdisciplinary projects or cooperation with international partners. Postdocs and professors can apply for supplementary funding of research projects in order to prepare applications for third-party funding (including EU projects and travel to cooperation partners, for cooperation with YERUN partners, see also YERUN Research Mobility Award, to set up conferences in Bremen or to undertake interdisciplinary research. As an added incentive for researchers, grants are available in particular for the preparation of first applications for DFG funding. Beside the Impulse Grants, University of Bremen offers application coaching and premiums in case of success (Funding Line 08).
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? All doctoral students admitted to PhD studies, research assistants already in possession of a doctoral degree and professors of the University of Bremen.
WHAT REQUIREMENTS HAVE TO BE MET? In the case of doctoral candidates, the funding should constitute an added value to the PhD project within the context of additional training or networking in the respective scientific community, provided it does not entail prolongation of the initially planned research period. For other applicants, the feasibility and high quality of proposed projects are the determining factors.
CONDITIONS FOR FUNDING: Funding is available for activities that can be concluded within a period of one year. In the case of doctoral candidates, the length and nature of the proposed activities must be proportionate to the respective research project. Costs for basic equipment (e.g. working place and its equipment) as well as catering are not eligible for funding. During the course of their research project, PhD candidates may apply twice for grants up to a maximum of €1,500 (including any funding for conference participation); all other status groups may submit one application per year up to an amount of €2,500. Part-funding is possible in all cases. When resources are limited, preference will be given to: Applications submitted by young researchers (Docs & Postdocs); applicants with no connection to projects with third-party funding that are already running and dispose of sufficient funds to finance the proposed project.
PROCEDURE: Applications for Impulse Grants (except doctoral candidates) may be submitted at any time and will be decided upon by the Vice Rector for Research and Young Academics and the Chairperson of the respective Faculty Research Commission.
Applications for Impulse Grants on the part of doctoral candidates may be submitted three times within any one year. These applications will be recommended by the “Young Researchers Committee” to the Vice Rector for decision.
