Applications from Bildungsausländer

Bildungsauslaender are applicants,

  • who have no EU, EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Swiss citizenship, and
  • whose educational certificates or university entrance qualification do not come from Germany.

Application for an undergraduate degree

Bildungsauslaender must apply for an undergraduate degree (Bachelor, First Law Examination / State Examination) at uni-assist, where their documents and language certificates are checked. The certificate evaluation and examination of the application documents is subject to a charge (75 euro for the first university, 15 euro for each additional one). Applications are only possible online at www.uni-assist.de/bewerberportal.html. Applicants who have completed a program of preparatory studies should contact the Student Secretariat directly

Following application, we will check whether you are allowed to study with your educational certificates at the University of Bremen. The evaluationproposals for foreign educational certificates, according to which the University of Bremen rates certificates from abroad, can be found at www.anabin.kmk.org

For the bachelor programs Business Administration and Economics, Bildungsauslaender must evidence successful participation in the “Test for Foreign Students” TestAS. Information about TestAS under www.testas.de

To prepare students for their studies, the University of Bremen offers applicants a program of preparatory studies.

Preparatory Studies Assessment Examination

Bildungsauslaender, who have passed an assessment examination in the frame of preparatory studies acquire a subject-related university entrance qualification. To apply, contact the Office for Student Affairs directly.

Student Visa

In order to be able to study at the University of Bremen, Bildungsauslaender must apply for a visa at a German diplomatic representation in their home country. The respective foreign representations can be found at www.auswaertiges-amt.de.

For most countries, the visa must be applied for prior to entry. Since issuing the visa often takes several months, it is important to take care of it at an early stage. A fee of 60 euro is charged for issuing the visa. In addition to the submission of documents (as a rule, passport, applicant confirmation, health insurance), the prospective student must supply evidence of having suffiecient funds to finance a year’s stay in Germany (currently 8640 euro). However, sometimes evidence of a higher sum may be required.

Applications for Masters programs
