Throughout recorded history, connections in geometry and arithmetic have been discovered, both out of systematic and aesthetic interest as well as for application in the sciences, from astronomy to philosophical systems. In our time, mathematical methods and results affect almost every area of life: security on the internet, evaluation of medical data, climate models, portfolio management, prototype design in the aircraft industry, satellite navigation - to name just a few examples.
The bachelor's program in mathematics offers a basic education in the full range of classical and modern mathematics. The goal is that students acquire sound mathematical knowledge which provides a sufficient basis for various specializations and changing requirements in further studies and in later professional life. This includes basic knowledge in programming, in the use of mathematical software and in the performance of computer-based simulations.
