Phases of Teacher Education

Teacher Education Elementary School, Gymnasien/Oberschulen or inclusive Pedagogy/Special Needs Pedagogy

Your training is divided into different phases. You must attend two study programs within the consecutive Bachelor/Master structure and complete a period of in-school training; the Referendariat.

Bachelor:

  • 6 semesters for all types of school, 180 CP, standard duration of studies 3 years

Master of Education:

  • 4 semesters for all types of school, 120 CP, standard duration of studies 2 years
  • Admission requirements: Bachelor’s teaching degree (see the admission regulations for further requirements)

Referendariat:

  • Prerequisite for being engaged as a teacher in public schools
  • Duration: 18 months (in Bremen)
  • Admission requirements: Master of Education degree

Teacher education for Vocational Schools

Your training is divided into different phases. You must obtain a single-subject bachelor’s degree in the area of vocational education, computer science or engineering sciences. This is followed by a Master of Education (Vocational Schools) and a Referendariat.

Bachelor:

  • Single-subject studies in the area of vocational education, computer science, or engineering sciences

Master of Education:

  • 4 semesters, 120 CP
  • Standard duration of studies 2 years

Referendariat:

  • Prerequisite for being engaged as a teacher in public schools
  • Duration: 18 months (in Bremen)
  • Admission requirements: Master of Education degree

Study Contents

Teacher training consists of

  • Subjects and subject didactics in two or three subjects (depending on the teacher)
  • Educational Science with Educational Modules and Key Qualifications / Dealing with Heterogeneity
  • School internships : orientation internship and practice-oriented elements in the Bachelor's degree; 3-month practical semester in the Master of Education

Extended Certificate of Good Conduct

The teacher-training for general education teacher (elementary school, secondary education ( high school / high school) , inclusive pedagogy) at the University of Bremen includes a practical semester, All which is completed as part of the Master of Education. An extended certificate of good conduct is required to be enrolled for the school assignment in the practical semester. This has been used in the summer of the previous year.
