Philosophy of Mind is now a well-established area of philosophy, rooted in the enduring question of the mind–body problem: how can mental phenomena arise in a physical world? In this course, we will explore central debates that have shaped the field, including dualism, physicalism, functionalism, and theories of consciousness and intentionality. Readings will include classic texts and influential contemporary papers. Toward the end of the course, we will consider recent developments—particularly the rise of embodied, embedded, and enactive (4E) approaches to cognition—that challenge traditional views of the mind as internal and disembodied.
