Center for Environmental Research and Sustainable Technologies (UFT)
The "Center for Environmental Research and Sustainable Technologies (UFT)" at the University of Bremen was founded in 1996 with the aim of conducting interdisciplinary research into the complex structures of the environment. In the cooperation between individual disciplines (biology, chemistry, production technology, social, human and health sciences), the UFT has since combined a broad professional and methodological competence. Basic research, applied environmental research and the development of sustainable environmental technology are closely interlinked here. In the 12 departments, molecular genetic processes of the environmental relationship of living organisms and macroscopic observations of populations and ecosystems are researched as well as environmental risks and environmentally friendly production processes.
The objectives of the UFT are focused on:
- the research and development of environmentally relevant chemical, biological, ecological and process engineering processes,
- the implementation of projects in environmental technology development and environmental research,
- offering interdisciplinary and environmentally relevant teaching.
In addition to individual projects financed by public research funding and by industrial companies, research focuses in particular on
- the development and adaptation of sustainable production processes as well as processes for the elimination of environmental pollution and its prevention within production-integrated environmental protection,
- biosensor developments in the field of DNA microarray technology,
- the observation and analysis of the environment and of substances introduced into the environment by man,
- the analysis of potential hazards for humans and ecosystems, and
- the vulnerability analysis of production processes.
