Torben Klarl and Lars Hornuf among Top Economists

Good news for the Faculty of Business Studies & Economics at the University of Bremen: the two economics professors Torben Klarl and Lars Hornuf are among the top ten percent of German economists in terms of current research performance. This is the result of a highly regarded ranking.

Every year the KOF Swiss Economic Institute (KOF) at ETH Zurich and the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf alternately compile a ranking for economics and business administration. These rankings are subdivided into individual and institution rankings. The ranking of individuals comprises economists from German-speaking regions as well as all researchers born in Germany. At the same time, it is also the basis for renowned rankings in the Handelsblatt newspaper and the WirtschaftsWoche magazine and is therefore closely followed in specialist circles.

The latest KOF/DICE economist ranking has now produced a pleasing result for the University of Bremen: according to the Impact per Publication (IPP) ranking and the Handelsblatt-BWL-Ranking (ranking for business administration) from 2014, which rank the significance of publications for science, Torben Klarl, professor of macroeconomics, and Lars Hornuf, professor of business administration with a focus on financial services and financial technology, are among the top ten percent of German economists.

Joint Work on Projects

Economist Torben Klarl is currently working on two research projects as a quantitative macroeconomist: On the one hand, he examines the role of monetary policy in the context of regional house price cycles for German cities. On the other hand, together with a doctoral student from the newly established “Digitalization” research group, he is researching the development of income and wealth inequality in connection with the digitization of jobs. Further projects are within the field of behaviorist macroeconomics.

Lars Hornuf’s research focuses on financial technologies, crowdsourcing, economic analysis of law, and behavioral sciences. Within the framework of his research, he is also active in policy consulting for federal ministries and European institutions. Both scientists are working on joint projects and are involved in the “Digitalization” research group. Together with other colleagues from the Faculty of Business Studies & Economics, they are currently involved in setting up a laboratory that will be used for social science experiments.
