PhD Position

The University of Bremen, Faculty of Physics/Electrical Engineering and Information Technology,
the Institute for Microsensors, -Actuators and –Systems (IMSAS)  is offering –
under the condition of job release – as soos as possible -

        PhD position in the area of long-term stable neural implants
    German Federal pay scale E 13 TV-L / full-time position for 36 months

IMSAS - www.imsas.uni-bremen.de  - is an Institute of the University of Bremen which conducts
research in microtechnology.

The employment is fixed-term and governed by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract,
§2 I (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered
for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance
with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG.

Your tasks:
We are seeking a Scientist to do research on long-term stable hermetically sealed layers of
neuroimplants. One of the biggest problems concerning electrical active neuroimplants is the
degrading of the functioning after a couple of months or years through permeating moisture.
The aim of this project is to develop - by analysis of the degradation and through specifically
devised technological experiments - a combination of layers, which will be stable in the brain’s
fluid over many years.

What we expect from you:
The candidate should hold an excellent university degree in Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology,
Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and knowledge of written and spoken English.
