The multimedia study spaces specifically support independent student learning activities in groups and project work. Learning islands are installed in each of these rooms, equipped with a conferencing table, a large flat screen, and often with a computer and a whiteboard as well as various connection cables for laptops and other mobile devices.

You can reserve a learning island on weekdays (Monday to Friday) via the Stud.IP learning platform on the toolbar menu item “Study Space.” It may also be possible to book outside these times.

For spontaneous learning: In many buildings on campus, you will find designated areas intended as study and work spaces for students. They are usually equipped with high-quality furniture and suitable for both individual and group work.

These areas can be used without prior booking. If you see a vacant study space, you can simply take a seat and use it. The times of use depend on the opening hours of the individual building. Some of the open study spaces are located in GW2 Building under the main stairways, on level 0 and 1 in MZH Building, and in NW1 Building.

You can can use the Stud.IP learning platform to find out which centrally administered seminar and lecture rooms of any building are not in use at a certain period of time and then use these as study and work areas. Search for available rooms on Stud.IP by clicking on “Search for Vacant Rooms” below the menu item “Study Space.”

Of course, a seminar room can only be used as a study space for as long as no seminars are being held in it. Once the course schedule indicates a seminar, the room must be vacated for this purpose. Please also pay attention to the booking schedule posted outside the rooms.
How Do I Reserve a Study Space?

Each student can book a learning island in a study area by themselves up to two weeks in advance. You do not need to reserve whole rooms. Simply go to the Stud.IP learning platform and choose the menu item “Study Space,” then click on the reservations page.

How often can I make a booking?

Since there is only a limited number of study islands for all students, there is a limit of two reservations per day, each lasting a maximum of two hours.

When are the study spaces open?

The study spaces are accessible on normal working days (Monday to Friday). Depending on the location, the times that rooms are open vary; exact times can be found in the description of the individual learning islands on the Stud.IP reservations page. In the library and in the MZH Building, the study spaces are also accessible beyond the normal times (depending on when the building is open), but ypu cannot reserve them.

Does my reservation have priority?

If you arrive on time at your booked learning island, the learning island should be cleared for you. If you arrive “too late” (more than 15-20 minutes) and the island is occupied, you’ll have to find an alternative solution.

What if a learning island is vacant?

You can work there, but you may have to vacate the island if it is booked by other students.
