Back in 1990, Dr. Martin Mehrtens took over the position of Head of Organization, HR Development and IT at the University of Bremen. During this time he systematically built up the area of personnel development. Between 1990 and 2010, he also introduced IT systems in the areas of studying, teaching, human resources, and finance. In addition, between 1998 and 2001 he introduced contract management to the University of Bremen as a tool for targeted and sustainable organizational development. From 2002 to 2008, he devoted his efforts to establishing measures of targeted personnel development for junior professors and newly appointed professors. In 2003, he introduced commercial accounting in connection with the introduction of SAP at the University of Bremen and the other Bremen universities. From 2004, Martin Mehrtens systematically established the training of generic competences for doctoral students and post-docs.
In December 2013, Martin Mehrtens became Head of Finance and Administration at the University of Bremen. He had provisionally held the position in the year beforehand.
