The Faculty of Social Sciences (FB 08) at the University of Bremen invites applications for the following academic position:

for the field of Global Political Economy and Social Inequality

The professorship is to be filled as soon as possible, subject to internal approval of the position. If the successful applicant meets the general requirements for the civil service, the position will be a lifetime tenure (Verbeamtung auf Lebenszeit). Classification in grade W2 or W3 will be determined by previous experience; the desired grade should be stated in the cover letter.
The faculty is seeking an internationally renowned individual with a background in political science, sociology, or economics. They will have broad knowledge of one or more of the following topics:
- Global social inequality
- International interdependencies between political economies
- Political and social consequences of global economic processes
We expect a research orientation that fits the thematic foci of the research area "Social Change, Social Policy and the State" as well as a strong interest in cooperation.
Teaching responsibilities include, in particular, the bachelor's and master's degree programs in political science and/or sociology and related subjects in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Assignment to one of the subjects will depend on the successful applicant's qualifications. Involvement in the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) is also desired. We expect the successful applicant to offer courses in both German and English; if proficiency in of one of these languages is currently insufficient, we expect it to be strong enough after three years at the latest. We further expect the successful applicant to participate in implementing the concept of "research-based learning". The use of media-supported forms of teaching and learning is desirable. Furthermore, experience with diverse gender perspectives in research and teaching is desired.

Extensive interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary collaboration is possible, for instance with the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS) and the SOCIUM Research Center on Inequality and Social Policy. We expect the successful applicant to have gained international academic experience, to actively participate in internationalization and international networking, and to have successfully acquired and completed third-party funded projects. Participation in the university’s ongoing and planned social science collaborative research initiatives in the context of well-established interdisciplinary collaboration in the thematic area of social inequality, the welfare state, and social or political conflict is expected.
Formal requirements for the position are a relevant academic university degree, a relevant and outstanding doctorate, and further academic achievements (equivalent to habilitation), which may also have been achieved outside the university sector. Willingness to participate in further training in higher education didactics as well as pedagogical aptitude, which as a rule must be demonstrated by experience in university teaching, are also required.
The appointment is based on § 18 BremHG and § 116 BremBG.
