1 x 1,0 Research Assistant
At the faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, the Cognitive Systems Lab is looking for a
Research Assistant (m/f)
for the project “Attention-driven Interaction Systems in Augmented Reality”. The contract duration is limited to 36 months and should start at the earliest date possible (subject to final approval of the position). The salary is based on the German employee scale „TV-L 13“ (100%) and the German Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (WissZeitVG).
Project description: Augmented reality (AR) glasses enable the embedding of visual content in a real scene. In the project „Attention-driven Interaction Systems in Augmented Reality“, we will implement user interfaces which adapt to the user, for example by avoiding distractions or directing the user’s attention towards missed information. For this purpose, the user’s attention is captured from sensor data (via EEG and eye tracking) and modeled with machine learning techniques. The project is supported by the universities’ central research fund.
Task: Building on existing models and interfaces, the task is to build models for estimation of a person’s attention from fusion and classification of multimodal data streams and context information as well as their evaluation in user studies. An additional task is to develop prototypical user interfaces for AR glasses and to test their usability. Furthermore, the position involves a small teaching load in the context of Human-Computer Interaction and machine learning. Within this project, working towards a doctoral degree is not only an option but highly encouraged.
- Above average master degree in computer science or a closely related field
- Advanced knowledge and experience in either or both of the research areas machine learning and Human-Computer Interaction
- Very good programming skills (preferably in Python and/or C# for Unity)
- Ability to perform independent research, documented for example by first scientific publications or an excellent thesis
- Very good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Very good command of English (both orally and in writing)
- Good command of German or willingness to improve
Since the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply. In case of equal personal aptitudes and qualification, priority will be given to disabled persons. Applicants with a migration background are welcome.
Deadline for the application is June 22nd 2018. Please send your application (including a CV, certificates, and a letter of motivation) to the contact given below, under the reference number A159/18.
