The University of Bremen is offering – under the condition of job release – two fulltime positions as Researchers with Tenure-Track to Senior Researchers (f/m/d) in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of “Human and Health Sciences” starting at the earliest possible date.

Initially, the appointment is limited to four years (salary group 14 TV-L). The employment is regulated by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract, §2 (1) (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG. The permanent position of a Senior Researcher (salary group 15 TV-L) can be assigned in case of proof of outstanding aptitude, performance and competence after successful completion of an evaluation. Research and scientific teaching are carried out independently within the framework of the Bremen Higher Education Act (§ 24). The teaching responsibilities are four weekly hours per semester in the position as Researcher and nine weekly hours as Senior Researcher.

The positions were established to sharpen the research profile of the newly founded Department of Psychology at the University of Bremen and to fulfill the teaching duties in the context of the new psychological courses of study (polyvalent Bachelor starting in winter 2020/21, research-oriented Master “Psychology” starting in winter 2020/21, Master “Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy” starting in winter 2021/22) on both the Bachelor and Master level. In this, the University of Bremen’s concept of “research-based studies from the outset” („Forschend Studieren von Anfang an“; ForstA: www.uni-bremen.de/en/forsta) and the international orientation toward a European University as part of the alliance “Young Universities for the Future of Europe“ (YUFE: www.yufe.eu) should be accommodated. In addition, requirements toward an innovative course of studying Psychology according to the new “Approbationsordnung“ and the guidelines of the German Psychological Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie; DGPs). The university offers a variety of opportunities for collaborations within the faculty and the high-profile areas “Health Sciences”, „Mind, Media, Machines“, and „Social Change, Social Policy and the State“. Researcher with Tenure-Track to Senior Researcher (f/m/d)

Psychometry and Study of Individual Differences.

As part of the newly founded and developed Department of Psychology we are searching for a talented young researcher (f/m/d) with a research profile or the potential of development at the interface of Differential and Developmental Psychology with the main focus on measuring, testing, and studying inter-individual differences in intra-individual processes and/or unequal life chances or rather the development of psycho-social differences. The developing profile may also include expertise in (a) the development and improvement of theoretical approaches of psychological measuring and testing of inter-individual differences in intra-individual variability, (b) test construction and evaluation, and (c) methods of assessment in applied psychological fields, such as clinical and forensic psychology.

Teaching duties focus on psychological assessment, differential psychology, and research on personality development and cognitive modeling. Teaching is required mainly in the newly developed Bachelor “Psychology” and the research-oriented Master “Psychology”. Depending on the specific expertise, teaching can also include courses in the new Master “Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy”.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Independent research in the study of individual differences/social inequalities and psychological assessment
  • Development of an own research program with publication activity and applications for research funding
  • Independent research-based Teaching within the frame of responsibilities with the main focus on psychological assessment (psychometrics, test construction and evaluation, preparation of expert opinions) including supervision of students in close coordination with the group “Personality Psychology and Psychological Assessment”
  • Participation in the leadership of a diagnostic lab and test library of the Department of Psychology
  • Participation in administrative activity at the Department of Psychology
  • Investment in academic autonomy

Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):

  • Very good university degree in the field of psychology
  • Very successfully recently finished PhD in psychology
  • First relevant scientific work (e.g. publication activity in pertinent scientific journals with peer-review)
  • Relevant experience and outstanding investment in teaching and supervision of students
  • Expertise in methodological skills and experience with diverse relevant statistical software (e.g. R, SPSS, Mplus, AMOS, Mx)
  • Language requirements: very good German

Further are desirable:

  • English skills (the ability to teach in the German language must be attained within the first two years of employment)
  • Experience in the handling of open science practices
  • Very high ability to work in a team and communicative competences
  • Superior mastery of contemporary media and presentation formats for teaching
  • Openness to cooperate with colleagues within the Department of Psychology and University

Researcher with Tenure-Track to Senior Researcher (f/m/d)

As part of the newly founded and developed Department of Psychology we are searching for a talented young researcher (f/m/d) with a research profile or the potential of development in the stated field. The successful candidate will perform research on the methodological background of experimental psychology including applied statistics and mathematical modelling of cognitive processes and psychological phenomena. Teaching duties focus on psychological methods and statistics (e.g., descriptive and inferential statistics, computer-based data analysis) and cognitive modeling. Teaching is required mainly in the newly developed Bachelor “Psychology” and the research-oriented Master “Psychology”.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Independent research in the field of applied statistics and cognitive modeling as well as related topics
  • Development of an own research program with publication activity and applications for research funding
  • Independent research-based teaching within the frame of responsibilities with the main focus on psychological research methods (basic statistics and cognitive modeling) including supervision of students in close coordination with the group “Psychological Research Methods and Cognitive Psychology”
  • Participation in administrative activity at the Department of Psychology
  • Investment in academic autonomy

Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):

  • Very good university degree in the field of psychology or related fields (e.g., cognitive sciences)
  • Very successfully recently finished PhD in psychology or related fields (e.g., cognitive sciences)
  • First relevant scientific work (e.g. publication activity in pertinent scientific journals with peer-review)
  • Relevant experience and outstanding investment in teaching and supervision of students
  • Expertise in methodological and statistical skills including modelling and experience with diverse relevant statistical software (e.g., R, Matlab, Julia)
