Senator Högl was impressed by the guided tour of the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM), particularly by the experimental procedures conducted in the Drop Tower. She highlighted the facility’s visibility – not only as a landmark of the scientific community but also as a research institute with unique infrastructure used by external partners and meeting the highest international standards.
She also praised the originality of The Martian Mindset Cluster of Excellence, where researchers simulate life on Mars to develop sustainable materials for extreme environments. The interdisciplinary collaboration between the fields of materials science, psychology, and sociology particularly stood out to her.
At the Digital Hub Industry, Senator Högl learned about the work of the Department of Communications Engineering. Researchers here focus on key topics such as communication networks, conducting highly applied research and developing market-leading technologies like 5G, which is widely used in everyday life, from mobile calls to data transmission. The team is also advancing 6G technology, which will enable mobile network coverage via satellites and other innovative solutions.
