Under the motto “Industrial Heritage Meets Industrial Mathematics,” #MOIN invites visitors of all ages to discover mathematics from a new perspective: hands-on, visual, and designed to inspire curiosity and experimentation. The event will take place at the Old Pumping Station (Altes Pumpwerk), located on Salzburger Straße 12. From 6 p.m. to midnight, the historic machine hall will provide the perfect setting. Once a landmark of industrial engineering, it will now offer a glimpse into how modern mathematics shapes our world and why industrial mathematics plays a vital role in innovation and future technologies. 

Several interactive exhibits will provide exciting insights into the world of mathematics, especially for children and families. In the Sandkasten² (sandbox²), visitors can shape landscapes with mountains, valleys, and riverbeds using 100 kilograms of sand. Then, a computer will demonstrate how to identify the lowest point and calculate optimal pathways, for example for wastewater systems, offering a playful introduction to the principles of mathematical optimization. 

A VR simulation will allow guests to immerse themselves in mathematical models and algorithms, while screens will display their experiences in real time. Interactive monitors featuring quizzes and brainteasers will complete the program, inviting visitors to test their knowledge and explore mathematics in an engaging and entertaining way.

Whether families, curious visitors, or technology enthusiasts – everyone is welcome to playfully immerse themselves in the world of mathematics. The goal is to show that math is everywhere – and can be great fun. It is not just about numbers and formulas, but also about creative solutions and new ideas.
