Getting Those Unfinished Written Assignments Done

Who hasn’t experienced the something similar? The apartment is now looking immaculate after a long-overdue clean-up, all those other little jobs have been taken care of, and now there is no excuse left for not getting back to work on that unfinished written assignment. Feeling lonely and tired, you finally find the motivation to look at what you’ve already done, make a small alteration here and there, and scrap a few sentences that no longer seem to fit. You then decide you’re not quite in the mood after all, and put the assignment out of your mind until the following day, leaving you with a bunch of blank pages and a guilty conscience – tomorrow things are bound to look better. If you really want to, though, there is a way to get over the “push-it-off-till-tomorrow” syndrome. Under the motto “Get it done before the sun comes up!” the University of Bremen’s Studierwerkstatt [student workshop] is calling on students to join the “long night of unfinished assignments”. This year the event is also being supported by the University Library. It starts in the library at 7.00 p.m. on Friday 23rd August 2013 and goes on till the early hours of the morning. A team of writing trainers will be on hand throughout to provide encouragement and support. You can register for the event up to 23rd August by contacting the Studierwerkstatt (located under the refectory). There is a small charge of 8 euros and you will be told the exact venue on registration.

“We kick off by assessing the work on hand and then formulating realistic goals for the night ahead”, explains Gabi Meihswinkel, who is leading the event. “There will be regular breaks for refreshment and even a session of yoga to help relax. Hopefully, by 6 o’clock in the morning everyone will be feeling good and proud of what they managed to achieve – and most likely completely exhausted!”

Participants should bring their own writing tools, from pencil to notebook, and a little something for the shared buffet. Water, coffee, fruit and cookies will be supplied.
