Since spring 2025, an orange bench with the inscription "Kein Platz für Gewalt," which translates to “no space for violence” in English, can be found in the newly created multigenerational park at the University of Bremen. The “No Violence Against Women – Zonta Says NO” (“Keine Gewalt gegen Frauen – Zonta says NO”) campaign by Bremen's Zonta Club is behind this clear message. Zonta is an international membership organization of women that is committed to the social and legal equality of women and girls worldwide.
The bench in the University of Bremen's park was made possible with Sparkasse Bremen's support. It is designed to draw the attention of the approximately 35,000 people on campus and in the Technology Park to this issue. The safety of everyone on campus, especially women and girls, is a priority for the university. To this end, a plaque has been affixed to the bench that shows a national helpline number for affected women and girls. The plaque also includes a QR code, which contains the details of help services offered by the city of Bremen. “We would like to thank Zonta for this initiative. The bench makes it clear that there is no place for violence on campus,” says Kathrin Sebastian, Gender Equality Officer at the University of Bremen.
Additional orange benches can be found at the Weserpark shopping center in Osterholz-Tenever and at the Sport Lounge Munte in Bremen.
