Physics and Electrical Engineering Day for High School Students

Faculty 1 hosted its 16th annual Physics and Electrical Engineering Day on Friday, March 6, 2026. Around 350 high school students and their physics teachers from Bremen and the surrounding area came to the campus to learn about current research.

Professors Meike List (physics) and Anna Förster (electrical engineering) gave high schoolers interesting insights into their fields’ current research topics. Using tangible examples, the professors showed how researchers at the University of Bremen are developing solutions to major challenges in the coming decades, ranging from space exploration to sustainable action through technical progress.
The visitors also enjoyed sixteen guided tours of the physics and electrical engineering labs.

Professor Christoph Kulgemeyer, who organized the event with his physics education team, emphasized, “This is a very important day for our faculty to present the physics and electrical engineering degree programs and dispel any prejudices about them. You don't have to be a genius to successfully study physics and electrical engineering. Misconceptions often prevent people from studying our subjects. But the truth is, our courses are designed to accommodate everyone. We are always looking for new students and welcome anyone who is interested in our programs.”

The StugA Physics student representatives were also present to answer high schoolers’ questions about studying these subjects.

Meanwhile, teachers learned about the latest developments in physics education at a workshop. As always, the event was fully booked. Of course, there will be another Physics and Electrical Engineering Day next year.
