Prof. Klaus Mävers – Faculty of Cultural Studies

Prof. Klaus Mävers has passed away at the age of 92. He taught music pedagogy at the Bremen PH since 1968 and from 1971 onwards, he helped to establish and significantly shape the music degree course at the University of Bremen.

He founded the “Collegium musicum” at the PH and transferred the group to the university in 1971. It became the core of today’s university orchestra, which he led until 1994. In the 1970s and 1980s, Mävers organized exchange projects with orchestras in Poland and former Czechoslovakia. His repertoire included several pieces that were otherwise only rarely heard at concerts, for example works of Bohemian composers with political messages.

Both his musical-pedagogical classes and his work with the orchestra were shaped by his impressive enthusiasm for music. With his supporting and bold manner, he was able to pass on his love for music to many.
