Professor Gerold Wefer Receives Senate Medal for Art and Science

This is cause for celebration at the University of Bremen too: Professor Gerold Wefer, who for decades has been a driving force in the development of marine sciences not only at the university, has been awarded the senate medal for art and science of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.

The decision to honor Gerold Wefer was made by the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen on January 29, 2019. “Gerold Wefer is an outstanding scientist, whom the city of Bremen and the discipline of marine sciences have a lot to thank for. The communication of science to society has also always been an important issue for him,” said Senator of Science Eva Quante-Brandt on the occasion of the award ceremony.
