New Master’s Program: “Angewandte Philosophie” (Applied Philosophy)

The new “Angewandte Philosophie” (applied philosophy) master’s program will start at the University of Bremen in the 2019 summer semester. The degree course is open admission and applications can be submitted until January 15, 2019.

In the “Angewandte Philosophie” (applied philosophy) master’s program, students deal with questions from science and society: for example, how to deal with conflicting objectives and contradictory demands, and what role experts can play in situations of uncertainty. To this end, they draw both on traditional philosophical models of thought and on more contemporary analytical methods.

Abstract Questions from Concrete Problems

One goal of the “Angewandte Philosophie” program is to identify and critically reflect on questions with regard to relevant philosophical problems. With particular topics and ways of thinking, students should learn how abstract and fundamental questions can arise from initial problems that appear to be concrete. Conversely, the retranslation of philosophical abstractions into lifeworld and scientific contexts is important.
