University Choir and Orchestra to guest in the Glocke with the "Liverpool Oratorio"

This is the second time the University Choir and Orchestra will be joined by other artists for a rendering of the Liverpool Oratorio in the Glocke, the first time being in 2007. On 30th January 2015 the University of Bremen Choir and Orchestra will once again be joined by guest singers for another performance of a very special musical work – very British. On this evening at 8pm the concert hall will be filled with the music of Paul McCartney’s “Liverpool Oratorio”, providing a suitable musical highlight to end the semester on.

A total of 240 musicians will appear on stage during the two-hour performance. The University of Bremen Choir and Orchestra led by the University’s musical director, Susanne Gläß, will be supported by the Unser Lieben Frauen Knabenchor (Bremen Boys’ Choir). On the evening the audience can marvel at the voices of soloists Jieun Kowollik (soprano), Maria Kowollik, Professor at the Bremen University of the Arts (alto), Clemens Löschmann (tenor) and Martin Kronthaler, longstanding member of the Bremen Theater opera ensemble (bass).

The classical musical work was written by Paul McCartney, the world famous pop star, together with film music composer Carl Davis. The realistic depiction of everyday life in Liverpool of the 1960s is full of typically British dry humor. The Libretto includes allusions to the biography of ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, who was raised in Liverpool. Musically, the entertaining piece jumps from one genre to another, sometimes sounding like the music of the Beatles, sometimes modern art music, then changing to film music and even neo-baroque church music.

Tickets:

Tickets for the concert cost 12 to 26 euros; half of this if you qualify for a reduced price. Tickets can be purchased from Pressehaus des Weser-Kuriers, Nordwest Ticket, in the Glocke (also on the evening of the event), and in the University Dining Hall from 28th to 30th January.
