Vice President Boehnke Appointed to BuWiK Board

Dr. Mandy Boehnke, Vice President for International Affairs, Academic Qualification, and Diversity at the University of Bremen, has been appointed to the academic advisory board that is helping to draft the German National Report on Early Career Researchers (BuWiK).

The report will focus on new personnel structures within the German academic system. Mandy Boehnke: “I look forward to contributing to the report that will provide a well-founded assessment of the current situation and identify concrete areas for improvement. It is particularly important to me to help shape the further development of personnel structures at universities.” The vice president has been appointed for the duration of the report's preparation, which is scheduled for completion in 2028. Her role thus spans the entire process – from topic development and the commissioning of supporting studies to the final creation of the report.

Above all, she emphasizes the importance of assessing the current situation: “To date, there has been no comprehensive review of the structures that are crucial for researchers in the early stages of their careers. I want to help ensure that the report closes this gap – for example, by analyzing job profiles, personnel structure concepts, organizational structures, and legal frameworks.”

Once per legislative term, the BuWiK provides well-founded statistical data and current research findings on academic qualifications as well as career paths and prospects in Germany. It forms an important basis for the discussion and further development of the political and legal frameworks. It also addresses issues of higher education development, higher education governance, and education policy up to the EU level.
