Numerous facilities in Bremen and Bremerhaven are dedicated to marine research. “Bremen Ocean Day focuses on this topic and brings marine research to life for everyone,” says Nicole Dubilier, director at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI) in Bremen and professor at the University of Bremen. She organizes the event with a team from the MPI and the University of Bremen. “We are delighted that the new format has been so well received and that we can give young people insights into our interdisciplinary research,” said Dubilier. Bremen Ocean Day is fully booked with 500 participants.

Five Lectures

While the first Bremen Ocean Day 2018 was dedicated to the deep sea, this time the focus is on the interaction between the oceans and our climate. At the event, young people can learn firsthand how and on what our marine researchers work. In five lectures, experienced explorers talk about their expeditions into perpetual ice, the magical world in sand, the significance of the deep sea floor for the climate, invasive species, and how our actions on land influence the ocean.
