Statement from the President Concerning the Banner on the Boulevard

After a defamatory banner against the police hung for a short period on the Boulevard on the morning of February 1, 2022, the university has filed an official police report. “We do not tolerate such hostile statements on our campus, says President Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter.

“We are shocked that our institution, which stands for respect, diversity, and democracy, was chosen for such an undignified act,” states the President. In the night from Monday to Tuesday, unidentified persons hung a one meter by 70 centimeter fabric banner on the Boulevard between the Lecture Hall Building and the Sportturm Building. The following was written in blue and in German on the banner: “Two less – ACAB.” The abbreviation stands for “All Cops Are Bastards.” Thus, it is suspected that the banner is connected to the murders of two police officers in Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz. Upon discovering the banner, the university immediately removed it and filed a complaint with the police. It is currently not know who hung the banner up. The police are investigating the matter.
