Partner Program Semester Abroad
The department has an attractive network with contacts to foreign universities, which is constantly being evaluated and expanded. A stay abroad via the Partner Program of the department is the easiest and most non bureaucratic for our students. Within Europe they participate in the Erasmus+ program. Students benefit from the tuition fees at the host university, intensive support at home and host universities, language preparation, uncomplicated recognition of services provided abroad and a mobility grant. Outside Europe, too, the department has many partnerships worldwide in bilateral agreements. Again, the tuition fees at the partner university are usually omitted. Financial support can be provided through scholarships.
Information
The preparation for studying abroad should start at least 12 months before the planned stay. If students want to go abroad in the summer semester, the preparation time is even 1.5 years in advance, if the chances of getting a desired place are to be particularly high.
An academic year, beginning with the winter semester, is divided into different phases in preparation for studying abroad with different deadlines, periods and many opportunities to participate in information events organized by the faculty or the central International Office.

Partner universities
We maintain long-term relationships with our partner universities within and outside Europe. Not only the exchange of students in both directions, but also the exchange of teachers and researchers take place regularly within this valuable network. All of these measures are elements of the department's steadily developing internationalization efforts. In developing this network, we take into account both the demands of our students and the research relationships of our scientific staff in order to develop a student exchange.
Information on required language skills for a semester abroad:
Even if you have obtained a B2 language level certified from the Abitur and even this has also been accepted by PABO, we always ask you to take a DAAD language test at the Language Center before applying abroad. In addition to the Abitur certificate, you have to upload the test result to the FB07 online application portal. If a lower level has been certified by the DAAD test, we request that you book a corresponding language course before your planned stay abroad. The B2 level is the absolute minimum level required to study abroad in a foreign language.
Some partner universities require the submission of a TOEFL, IELTS or similar test. Please inform yourself in time on the website of the respective universities about the requirements.
We maintain cooperations with partner universities in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, USA und Vietnam.
Application
The application process at the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics differs from the application process at other faculties. For an application to a partner university of the Faculty 7 it is necessary to adhere to our deadlines and processes in order to be considered in the selection. The regular application deadline for a semester abroad in the following academic year (beginning with the winter semester) is January 15. Applications are submitted through the faculty's online application portal.
If you missed this deadline, you have until February 5 to apply for remaining spaces for both the winter and summer semesters. You can apply for remaining places for the summer semester until August 1. You can find the current list of remaining places here.
When applying through other faculties, through other programs or as a Freemover, use the FB 7 application portal only if you are applying for a place at a FB 7 partner university. Enter the other selection (other faculty etc.) as a reference in the comment field provided at the end of the form.
If you do not apply for a FB 7 partner university, you will not be able to use the application portal. Please inquire here about the modalities of the application with the coordinators of the other faculties or the persons responsible for the program.

Financing
A longer stay abroad means alongside the regular studies, an additional effort needs to put into organizational and financial areas. Often there is no possibility during the time abroad to have a side job. Also, not all students receive BAFöG benefits. Other means of money must be used. There are various ways to apply for scholarships or even to take out a special loan.
The Erasmus program, initiated by the European Commission, promotes student mobility with partner universities in the Erasmus area.
Under the Erasmus+ program, students of the University of Bremen can spend between 2 and 12 months on each study level (bachelor, master, PhD) studying their subject at one of our EU partner universities.
ERASMUS + fellows do not have to pay tuition fees at the European University during their semester abroad. Furthermore, they receive a mobility grant in three country categories from currently 490-600 Euro per month.
Students with special needs may apply for additional funds for their stay abroad. That affects students with a disabilty, students who travel with a child, students from a non-academic home as well as working students.

If students receive a BAföG while in Germany, they will also receive BAföG while in a foreign country. For this purpose, a separate application must be submitted to the office responsible for the respective country .
The application should be submitted 6 months before the start of the stay abroad. With a more favorable tax base, it is quite possible that you will receive foreign BAföG, even though you were considered ineligible in Germany.

The mobility program PROMOS supports part-scholarships for a maximum of 3 months per study period (BA / MA) for study-related stays abroad outside the Erasmus area. PROMOS can also support internships, language courses and specialist courses outside of Europe.
For particularly good study achievements and social commitment, it is possible to apply for a scholarship from the DAAD. The scholarship database on the DAAD website lists a large number of possible scholarships.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Research offers a comprehensive scholarship database, called Scholarship Counseling.
Please note that sometimes there are very early application deadlines.
German citizens are granted an educational loan by the Federal Office of Administration and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), independently of BAFöG. Interest rates and repayment modalities are very beneficial. The application is on the official website.
Recognition
The basis for the recognition of study achievements, which have been provided abroad, is the Learning Agreement. This must always be coordinated with the Office for International Affairs as well as with the host university at the beginning of a stay abroad or, in the case of changes also during the time abroad. Timely coordination ensures that there is always clarity about the eligible courses. After signing the Learning Agreement, only failed exams mean that courses can not be recognized. There is no obligation to have academic achievements recognized. This is your decision.
The standard rule for recognition of study achievements abroad is a 100% crediting according to the agreed study plan.
In the semester abroad, a full workload of 30 ECTS must be provided, even if only fewer credits are required for the student. Extra points or courses are included in the diploma as additional voluntary credits.
Procedure for the recognition for students of the Faculty of Business Studies and Econmics:
- You have signed version of your Learning Agreement.
- Completion of the semester abroad and receipt of the Transcript of Records from the host university.
- You fill out the Application for recognition. Tip: Carfeully read the instructions for filling out the application.
- Sign the printed application.
- Submit the application together with the Transcript of Records from the host university and the Learning Agreement to the Office for International Affairs at the faculty (WiWi1 A3140). (Attention: digital applications cannot be processed).
- The application will be forwarded by the Office for International Affairs to the person responsible for recognition and to the Central Examination Office (ZPA).
- You will receive a notification of recognition from the ZPA.
