Panel discussion on the transition from socialist planning to a market economy

On April 22nd, Michael Rochlitz took part in a panel discussion on the topic of the transition from socialist planning to a market economy. The discussion was organized by the German Historical Institute in Moscow (DHI), and the Center for East European and International Studies in Berlin (ZOiS).

The discussion was focused on the societal and economic transition processes experienced by the formerly planned economies of Eastern Europe during the late 1980s and the 1990s. Together with Prof. Dr. Michael Rochlitz, the Austrian economic historian Dr. Peter Wegenschimmel, Dr. Marcus Böick from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, as well as Prof. Sergej Zhuravlev from the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences took part in the discussion. The event was moderated by the director of the German Historical Institute in Moscow, Dr. Sandra Dahlke, and supported by the DHI, ZOiS, the Körber Foundation, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the German Society for Eastern European Studies (DGO), as well as the Russian NGO “Memorial”.
