Women’s Health

🙋‍♀️ Series of events from 27 to 29 May

28 May marked International Women’s Health Day. The University of Bremen’s Workplace Health Management programme took this as an opportunity, as part of a series of events on women’s health in the workplace, to support all female colleagues in actively learning about gender-specific health factors, promoting their own health and resilience, and enhancing and maintaining their well-being and performance.

As employees of the University of Bremen, we are confronted every day with a wide variety of tasks and challenges, which we can only tackle to the best of our ability if we are healthy, full of vitality and able to perform at our best. Only when we are well and feel comfortable in our workplace can we realise our full potential. We are delighted to support you in doing just that with the following events:

Workshop „Female Health: Focus Menopause“

Thursday, 28.05.2026

Menopause affects a large proportion of working women and is often accompanied by a variety of physical and psychological changes—including reduced performance, sleep disturbances, hormonal imbalances, and muscular or metabolic changes. The goal of this workshop is to explain these processes, reduce stigma, and provide concrete, practical strategies to improve health and performance.

The workshop consists of three coordinated expert inputs:

  • Medical Introduction (Melanie Stade, Physician)
Introduction to menopause: definition, phases, typical symptoms, and medical relevance for everyday life and work.
  • Training & Movement (Robin Neumann, Sports Scientist)
Effects of menopause on musculature, metabolism, and performance. Evidence‑based recommendations for strength training, cardiovascular health, and preventive approaches (e.g., osteoporosis and cognitive health).
  • Nutrition & Micronutrients (Katharina Janus, Nutrition Scientist)
The role of nutrition, micronutrients, and gut health (microbiome) for hormonal balance, energy levels, and recovery. Practical recommendations for everyday life.

This lecture is aimed at participants of all ages.

The Female Brain – Understanding, Using, Strengthening

Friday, 29.05.2026

The female brain thinks, feels, and reacts differently depending on hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle and across life stages. This variability can be a strength.
This lecture explores different life phases and provides insights into how the female brain functions, showing how hormonal fluctuations influence cognitive performance, emotional resilience, and overall well‑being. We will also discuss how perimenopause can affect brain health and long‑term well‑being.
Understanding these changes can help individuals respond more consciously and strengthen both cognitive performance and long‑term brain health.

This lecture is suitable for participants of all ages.

Speaker: Mareike Friedberg‑Parbs
