Vita

Susanne Becker finished her bachelor's degree in History and Comparative Literature at Ruhr-University Bochum. In her bachelor thesis she explored the political dimension of knowledge representation in Renaissance cabinets of curiosities, using the systematization according to Samuel Quiccheberg as a case study. In her Public History master's degree, she developed a primarily interest in historical representations in audiovisual media and thus found her way into Game Studies. Building on this, she wrote her master thesis on representations of colonialism in digital games with history-related content and devoted her analysis in particular to the reproduction of Eurocentric narratives through the setting and gaming mechanics. Her research interest in memory culture solidified during her work at the Institute for Social Movements in Bochum and during her internship at the LWL Industrial Museum in Dortmund. Since January 2022, she is a PhD researcher at the ZeMKI and is part of the interdisciplinary cooperation between the labs "Audio-Visual Media and History" and "Communication History and Media Change".
