Member of the ZeMKI Lab: "Communication History and Media Change"
Since may 2018, Viviane Harkort works as a research associate at the Department of Communication and Media Studies with a focus on communication history and media change at the University of Bremen. Previously she worked on the research project „Shitstorms, Hate Speech, and Fake News: How journalistic media can help civilize discourses on the net“ by the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LfM). Viviane Harkort completed her studies „Communication Management“ (2015 – 2017) and „Journalism/PR“ (2012 – 2015) both as the best of her year. Her bachelor thesis entitled „Press freedom in Germany and France – a current perspective“ was awarded with the Erich-Müller-Preis, her master thesis entitled „The relationship between right-wing populism and the media using the example of the Alternative für Deutschland and the Front National“ has been nominated, too. During her studies, Viviane Harkort worked at the human right’s organization Reporters Without Borders, as a freelance journalist and for a member of the Bundestag. She has also completed various internships, e.g. at the Tagesschau and the European Parliament in Brussels. Since April 2018, Viviane Harkort is teaching at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
