In cooperation with the Bremen branch of the German Journalists' Association, the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen is launching a new lecture series entitled "SchlussPunktStart". In the course of the summer semester, graduates of communication and media studies programmes will present their final theses that deal with the field of journalism in terms of content. In this way, research results can be discussed that are otherwise only dealt with at the university level.

Ann-Christin Dieker will kick off the new lecture series "SchlussPunktStart" on Wednesday, 27 April 2022. Starting at 5 p.m. in the GALERIE am schwarzen meer (raum2, Am Schwarzen Meer 121) in Bremen, the focus will be on the topic of her Bachelor's thesis "The conflict potential of gender asterisks, colons and BinnenIs - Why doesn't Germany want to gender?" It is a media content analysis of Twitter data on the discourse on gender-sensitive language. Through random sampling, the graduate student proves: regardless of the facts, polarising opinions are reproduced above all. This is blamed, among other things, on the characteristics of Twitter. The graduate of the Bachelor's programme in Communication and Media Studies at the University of Bremen was supervised by Verr.-Prof. Dr. hab. Stephanie Geise and Dr. Stephan Görland. As an interface between science and practice, Libuse Cera from the German Journalists' Association, Bremen Regional Association, will moderate an exchange with the guests present on the topic after an overview of the state of the discussion. Admission is free of charge.

The aim of the lecture series is to make research results related to journalism accessible to the public during the summer semester. The cooperation between the German Journalists' Association, Bremen Regional Association, and the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research enables graduates of communication and media studies programmes to present their theses and discuss them with media practitioners.
