Stephan O. Görland and Stefanie Walter Receive Research Funding from the Bremen-Cardiff Alliance Collaborative Fund

The focus of Stephan O. Görland's research will be on the question of the media repertoires of migrants in the UK compared to Germany. Stefanie Walter’s project deals with the recent climate protests such as Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion.

Stephan O. Görland will be in Cardiff from 10/02/2020 to 25/03/2020 to pursue his research activities. The focus will be on the question of the media repertoires of migrants in the UK compared to Germany. In January 2019, the Welsh government announced the "Nation of Sanctuary - Refugee and Asylum Seeker Plan" with the aim of supporting the integration of refugees and asylum seekers in Wales, regardless of their path to Great Britain. From the perspective of communication studies, this leads to the interesting question of what role the media play here.

Stefanie Walter’s collaborative project with Catherine Walsh from Cardiff University deals with the recent climate protests such as Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion. The project asks whether the mobilizations that occurred in the contexts of these protest movements are related to changes in the news media coverage of climate change. A longitudinal study of climate change reporting by British and German daily newspapers will be carried out. In the course of the next year, Stefanie Walter will spend several weeks at Cardiff University and Catherine Walsh at the University of Bremen.
