Introduction to setting up Wi-Fi access on iOS

Note

Please note that the following instructions describe how to set up the Eduroam network using the CAT configuration tool.

If you are asked for the user data, be sure to use upper/lower case and enter your user name (no alias) including @uni-bremen.de.

Preset

In some cases there may be problems setting up the eduroam network under iOS devices. In these cases, you should remove existing profiles as well as existing connections to eduroam before starting the setup process. 

Delete existing profiles: Open the settings and navigate to the "General" item, from here navigate to the "Profile" item. Select the "eduroam" profile and click on "Remove profile". Confirm the removal by entering your device password.
Deleting a WLAN connection: Open the settings and navigate to the "WLAN" item, search for the eduroam network here and click on the "Info icon" on the far left. In the following dialog, click on "Ignore this network".

Step 0

To connect to the Eduroam Wlan you need an Eduroam Wlan profile file for your iOS device, which you can download and install via the Uni-Bremen Wlan or alternatively via Mobile Data (then proceed from step 3).

Step 1

Navigate via "Settings"-"Wi-Fi" and switch on the WLAN. Now select the WLAN "Uni-Bremen".

Step 2

Now the minimal browser of the iOS device opens, close it by pressing "Cancel". In the following dialog select "Use network without Internet". If this option does not appear, connect to the "Uni-Bremen" Wlan again.

Step 3

Start Safari and open the page wlan.uni-bremen.de/cat

Step 4

Check the information and confirm with the blue button "Download your eduroam installation program".

Step 5

iPad: You will be forwarded directly to the download, which is usually automatic. If not, click on
"In case of problems with the automatic download please use this link.


iPhone: In the following window click on the blue button "Download the installer for iOS" and you will be prompted to allow the process. Click on "Allow".

Step 6

The settings open and show the downloaded profile. Click on "Install". Confirm the installation by entering your password. Press "Install" again when the message "Attention" appears.

Step 7

Now enter your user name in the form username@uni-bremen.de and click on continue.  In the following dialog enter your Wlan password. The profile has been successfully installed. The connection should now be established automatically.

Troubleshooting

If no connection is established, this can have various causes:

 

  • If there is no access point with the eduroam network nearby, the location must be changed.
  • If there is no access point with the eduroam network in the vicinity, the location must be changed.
    If there is still an old profile file on your device, you must first delete it. To do this, open the settings and navigate to the "General" item, from here you navigate to the "Profile" item. Select the old "eduroam" profile and then click on "Remove profile". Confirm the removal by entering your device password.
