E-exams in the testcenter

Current situation

UPDATE 05.10.2021: Face-to-face exams in the test center are possible in compliance with the 3G-rule (control at the entrance to the anteroom of the test center).  The  corona protective measures in the current version apply. The spacing rule is waived, so a maximum of 120 seats can be filled. If the number of students is lower, the seats with the largest possible spacing will be filled (e.g. every second seat = 64/56 or every third seat = 48/40/32). There will be no more intermediate cleaning, but students will be given the opportunity to clean their workstations themselves with a cleaning cloth provided.

What are electronic exams in the test center?

After completion of the course unit (module, lecture), an exam is written using the 120 PC in the test center under supervision at the times specified by the examination board. The number of slots depends on the number of participants. If there are more than 240 students (3 or more slots neccessary), different exam variants or a random selection from a larger pool of questions can be used. An extensive set of open-ended (e.g. constructed essays) and closed-ended question types (selected response like multiple choice or drag&drop mapping) is available. The registration procedure for the exam is the same as for written exams (usually via the ZPA-PABO). After the examination and completion of any necessary scoring, the teachers receive an excel sheet with the results as well as all other examination data (examination protocols for archiving, comment lists, examination statistics). If desired by the lecturers, the inspection of examination protocols by students can also be organized in the test center.

  • Handbook e-Exam (in german): Reference work on how to organize exams, create questions, performing the exam in the testcenter and scoring of constructed answers of students to open ended questions.

Ablaufplan für die Erstellung einer E-Klausur mit den folgenden Phasen: Beratung (Didaktik und Organisation, Schulung (Fragenerstellung und Prüfungsdesign), Katalogerstellung und Qualitätssicherung, Registrieren der Prüfungsteilnehmenden, Prüfung im Testcenter, Nachbewertung, Ergebnisexport und -analyse, Klausureinsicht im Testcenter

After an initial consultation meeting on the organization and didactics of the examination and booking of appointments in the test center, the examiners receive a detailed schedule for all further steps as well as access to the test center management tool TMT (support files, file exchange, process control, booking management, etc.). The examiners receive a short training on the technical implementation of the questions (approx. 2 hours); in exceptional cases, the ZMML can take over this task. After the questionnaire has been created, the ZMML sets up the examination in the examination system and the examiner can then check it online via a secure VPN connection on the test center server. The ZMML makes any necessary corrections. After a final check of the questions and settings, the examiners transmit the list of participants (obtained from the ZPA) via the TMT to the ZMML, which registers the students for the corresponding exam variant in the examination system.
The exam in the test center takes place under the usual conditions for written exams (supervision, authentification via passport, only allowed aids at the place), the staff of the ZMML supervises every start and change between the slots (technical preparations, fixing log-in problems, missing registrations etc.). After the exam and any necessary scoring, the examiners receive all result and exam data via the TMT. Appointments for an exam review by students can be booked individually.
