New Research Project: China's Raw Materials Empire

As part of the Learning Empire consortium, Wiebke Rabe leads a new DFG-funded research team on Chinese imperial practices in overseas mineral extraction.

Securing access to raw materials has been a central concern of empires throughout history. Over a four-year period, Wiebke Rabe will lead a project on Chinese imperial practices in overseas mineral extraction and processing, focusing on four key minerals relevant to the global energy transition across three regions: the Copperbelt, the Lithium Triangle, and Indonesia. The project is part of the consortium Learning Empire, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and coordinated by Constructor University.
