My dissertation investigates the intersection of discrimination, mental health practice, and epistemic justice within the German healthcare system. While existing literature confirms that discrimination negatively impacts mental health, there is a critical scarcity of research focusing on the European context. This project shifts the focus from BIPOC individuals solely as service users to non-migrant BIPOC mental health professionals. These practitioners occupy a dual position: they hold professional authority yet simultaneously face marginalization.
The project aims to fill the gap and provide a framework for understanding how marginalized professionals can serve as agents of epistemic repair and systemic change in Germany.
