Christian Zurhelle

Christian’s PhD project focuses on qualitative and quantitative investigations of the marine Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) pool. He's an expert in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and uses this analytical technique to correlate the abundance of chemically defined DOM components across phytoplankton blooms. This work provides crucial data to conceptually link phytoplankton dynamics and interactions with DOM fingerprints. Moreover, Christian is interested in structurally elucidating specific DOM molecules, such as novel algal toxins, using 2 dimensional NMR experiments.
