The international Master's Program "Ecology" was established at Bremen University in 2008. It is a programme for European and Non-European students with a background in biology, ecology or a related subject. The courses are taught in English and follow the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
The Master of Ecology is multidisciplinary and contains many innovative elements such as a mentoring programme, integrated skills courses, supporting online material, scientific projects, and individual research training.
Research in the area of “Marine Ecosystems” encompasses the bioscientific components of Bremen’s excellent high-profile area of marine research; Marine Ecology is therefore one of the elements of the Master's Programme MSc Ecology.
The program consists of 4 semesters (two years) including the Master's thesis. Specialisation is offered with an individual choice of courses, i.e. in Molecular, Behavioural, Population, Vegetation, Field, Cognitive, Marine or Soil Ecology, as well as Conservation Biology, Risk Assessment, or Ecological Modelling. Especially during the 3rd term, students have the possibility to study at one of our partner universities abroad.
Students who would like to apply for the MSc. Ecology programme, must have a Bachelor‘s degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Ecology, or a related field, or you have 135 CP and expect to finish your Bachelor‘s before starting the Master's programme. Applications should include a CV, a motovation letter, your Bachelor‘s degree (if you don't have a Bachelor‘s degree yet, include a transcript of records), and if you are a non-native speaker you need to proof your English language proficiency by taking a recognised English proficiency test (e.g. TOEFL / iBT 90; IELTS: band 6.5).
The online application deadline is April, 30. The programme will start in October of the same year.mehr
The Master of Science Ecology will provide you with a broad ecological background and will train you to become a critically thinking scientist. On the one hand you will get extensive research experience qualifying you for PhD studies and an academic career but further more the acquired scientific, technical and communication skills will also open a wide range of additional opportunities. During the programme, you will become familiar with many techniques and approaches including field experiments, analysis of animal behaviour, mathematical modelling, sustainability research, advanced statistics and modern genetic methods.
