04-M30-MP-2351SATSHAKE - 6 DoF Microvibration Shaker for Advanced Satellite Instrument Testing (in englischer Sprache)
SATSHAKE - Vibrationssystem in 6 Freiheitsgeraden für Satelliten-Instrumenten-Tests

Projektplenum
ECTS: 12

The goal of the project is to develop a test system which shall allow to generate vibrations in 6 degrees of freedom (3 translational, 3 rotational). Such a test system shall be used in the future as a simulator for micro vibrations on board of a satellite. lt will support tests of satellites in getting a better understanding of the propagation of micro Vibrations from source to payload. To achieve
the required functions , multiple electro-magnetic actuators will be used which are arranged in a special configuration . The scope of the project foresees to derive the system architecture, design the physical components and control logic, manufacturing and system testing.

04-M30-MP-2352Development of software for the design and optimization of hybrid fuel cell/battery power plants (in englischer Sprache)
Entwicklung einer Software für das Design und die Optimierung von hybriden Brennstoffzellen-/Batterie-Kraftwerken

Projektplenum
ECTS: 12

This project aims to develop a tool for improving the characteristics of hybrid fuel cell/battery power systems, so that their great potential in reducing the environmental impact of transportation and energy generation modes can be leveraged.
In this project, a software for the design and optimization of these systems will be developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The software will consist of several building blocks, such as the fuel cell system, the battery system, elements for plant balancing such as DC/DC converters or inverters, as well as the hydrogen tank. For the development of these blocks, it will be necessary to incorporate physical or semi-empirical models of the elements. Once the different blocks have been developed, the next step will be to optimize the designs in terms of power and energy density, as well as specific power and energy. Additionally, objectives related to capital and operating costs, as well as environmental impact, will be included. Genetic algorithm-based methods will be employed for optimization.
Additionally, the study of different hybridization architectures will be carried out in order to determine which one is the best as function of the final application of the hybrid system.

04-M30-MP-2358Preparing Examples to Solve Optimal Control Problems with WORHP in MATLAB Environment (in englischer Sprache)
Vorbereitung von Beispielen zur Lösung von Optimalsteuerungsprobleme mit WORHP in MATLAB Umgebung

Projektplenum
ECTS: 12

In the lecture Trajectory Optimization, the students use WORHP Lab to implement examples for optimization problems and optimal control problems. As a next step towards using the full functionality of WORHP, we want to feature the MATLAB interface of WORHP, especially for optimal control problems. Here, the differential equation system can be solved using MATLAB functions like ode45. In this master project, the student should develop implementations of the discretized control (piecewise constant or continuous/piecewise linear), or even impulsive control at distinct time points.
As a next step, it could be considered to switch from single shooting methods to multiple shooting methods. Also it could be analysed, how efficient the numerical derivatives for the gradient method in WORHP can be determined. Further improvements could include: transformation to finite time, adaptive step size control, pseudospectral methods, ...

In total, we expect the following:
- working examples for optimal control problems in MATLAB, which can be used as template for other tasks
- short documentation of what mathematical concepts are considered in the examples, and how examples can be implemented.
