Update from 24.09.2021
According to the university' s corona regulations, the event will consider the 3G rule. Therefore, participation is only possible with a corresponding proof - vaccinated, tested or recovered - which must be shown at the entrance to the building. Students who need a test, please do it one day before.

The entrance starts one hour before the event begins. Please be there on time for the start at 8 o'clock.

The following fire drill will take place at the practice area in the Emmy-Noether-Strasse behind the SFG building in groups of no more than 100 people. The group formation will take place in the lecture hall after the presentation. Because the exercise will be outside, please remember to wear weatherproof shoes and clothing.

This course is to be offered as a one-time add-on during the current winter semester for those students who are unable to attend 04-M30-CP-SAS-3 Space Systems Engineering/Concurrent Engineering due to capacity limitations. The course is also credited in the module "Satellite Systems" and can only be used as a substitute for 04-M30-CP-SAS-3. Please register here so that the demand can be estimated. The scheduling and further detailed planning depends on the number of interested students. Please note that this course will not include practical exercises in the "Concurrent engineering facility" of DLR.

The course is intended exclusively for students who are currently enrolled in the Master's program "Space Engineering". The presentation of appropriate IDs is required.

Seminar

Termine:
wöchentlich Do 14:00 - 16:00 (2 SWS)

Course content:

In this seminar, we shall study foundational, historical and philosophical questions of cosmology. The syllabus comprises topics and concepts such as (A) key elements of the cosmological standard model and anomalies within it; (B) cosmology as a science and how contemporary research benefits from an awareness of its historical development; (C) further epistemological and methodological questions regarding, for instance, the heavy reliance on strong idealisations and extrapolations in cosmology.
Formally, no prerequisite knowledge in either cosmology or philosophy is needed (albeit desirable). Diligent preparation of the weekly required reading, and continuous active participation are obligatory for successfully completing this course (See below for the details regarding the course requirements/Leistungsnachweis).

Learning outcome/learning goals:

• Basic knowledge of cosmology.
• Knowledge of basic relevant notions from the philosophy of the natural sciences (natural law, space, time, infinity, …)
• Basic insights into the aims of scientific inquiry and the generation of scientific knowledge (by means of examples from the history of cosmology)

04-M30-MP-2103Automated computation of the supersonic ascent of sounding rockets using ANSYS CFX (in englischer Sprache)

Projektplenum
ECTS: 12 MScSpaceEng/15 MScPT

This project aims at creating a simulation environment to ease the simulation of the ascent of sounding rockets using CFD approaches. The simulation will be carried out using ANSYS CFX. Ultimately the shall allow to adapt the geometry of a sounding rocket without the necessity of setting up a new mesh in ICEM.

The objectives and your tasks in this project will be:

• Read best practices for CFX and Meshing
• Understand the Theory behind the problem
• Make yourself familar with existing steady state simulation setup for a blunted nosecone (MAIUS)
• Task A (2 Person)
1. Adapt the current setup to have varying input velocity according to atmosphere model based on flight data
2. Extend model to full MAIUS geometry and compare output with measured data
3. Study impact of decrease in wall thickness (3/4/5mm)
4. Include ablative coating in simulation
  • Task B:
5. Parametrization of a geometry and the surrounding fluid
6. Check performance and stability of the mesh and solver
7. Implement a setup with a Ogive Nosecone
8. Program a user interface with ANSYS to vary the geometry

• Cmbine output from A and B in one simulation
• Optional: Include Air in the interior
• Optional: Include fins and motors
• Optional: Allow Rotation and an Angle of attack > 0°
