In the Intercultural Training, participants learn methods, exercises and theories that facilitate intercultural communication and sensitize them to cultural conflict situations.
The seminar is open to all students and doctoral candidates (national/international) of the University of Bremen.
For submitting a reflection report in addition to attending the seminar, 3 ECTS can be awarded for General Studies. This is done in consultation with your department. Please note that we cannot award grades.

Whether it is coping with ‘Peak Oil’, meeting the challenge of climate change, helping farmers in poorer countries through fair trade, or finding ways to keep discarded products out of the landfills, sustainability issues are the biggest challenges facing businesses. The course shows how the complexities of sustainability issues can be integrated into marketing. The systematic, step-by-step approach of sustainability marketing involves: an analysis of socio-ecological priorities to complement conventional consumer and market research; an integration of ethical values into marketing strategy; the development of sustainability marketing strategies; a new consumer-oriented sustainability marketing mix of the ‘4 Cs’ (Customer Solutions, Communications, Customer Cost, Convenience) to replace the outmoded and producer-oriented ‘4 Ps’; and finally an analysis how innovation and marketing can go beyond responding to social change to contribute to a transformation to a more sustainable society. The course is ideally suited to both students and practitioners at many different levels and disciplines, including marketing, innovation, CSR, sustainability and environmental management. In Modul 65 General Studies - Wahlpflichtbereich muessen von den Studierenden 12 CP erbracht werden. Die Studierenden koennen hierzu völlig frei aus dem Lehrveranstaltungs-Angebot der Universität Bremen wählen: Dies Angebot umfasst alle Lehrveranstaltungen, die eine Veranstaltungs-Kennziffer (VAK) der Universität Bremen haben, also auch entsprechende Lehrveranstaltungen z. B. des Fremdsprachenzentrums, der Studierwerkstatt etc.. Die jeweiligen Leistungen können benotet oder unbenotet sein. Benotete Leistungen gehen dabei nach Credit-Punkten (CP) gewichtet in die Endnote ein. Die Studierenden entscheiden selbst, welche Leistungen sie sich im Modul 65 anrechnen lassen. Zwei wichtige Hinweise: 1) Im Zentralen Prüfungsamt (ZPA) eingereichte Scheine können nicht mehr ausgetauscht oder anderweitig verschoben werden; 2) Jede Veranstaltung bzw. jedes Modul kann nur einmal zur Anerkennung eingereicht werden.
Alternativ zu Lehrveranstaltungen der Universität Bremen und des Fremdsprachenzentrums können:
a) bis zu 3 CP für künstlerisch-kulturelle Aktivitäten an der Universitaet Bremen (z. B. Universitätsmusik) anerkannt werden;
b) bis zu 3 CP für die Mitarbeit im Studiengangsausschuss (Stuga) oder für freiwilliges zivilgesellschaftliches Engagement während des Studiums (innerhalb und ausserhalb der Universität Bremen) angerechnet werden. Für diese Leistungen muss ein zweiseitiger (5.000 Zeichen) Reflexionstext angefertigt werden, worin der Kompetenz- und Erkenntniszugewinn der ausgeübten Tätigkeit mit Blick auf das Studium der Gesundheitswissenschaften reflektiert wird.
Handhabung der Anrechnung:
Alle Leistungen, die in Veranstaltungen der Universität Bremen (reguläre Lehrveranstaltungen sowie Veranstaltungen des Fremdsprachenzentrums, der Studierwerkstatt, der Universitätsmusik etc.) erbracht werden, werden direkt vom ZPA in PABO/FlexNow eingetragen. Die vom jeweiligen Fachbereich gesiegelten und mit CP-Angabe versehenen Scheine werden in Original und Kopie im ZPA eingereicht.
Leistungen von anderen Universitäten müssen durch den Bachelor-Prüfungsausschuss (BPA) – vertreten durch seinen Vorsitzenden – anerkannt werden.
Die Mitarbeit im Studiengangsausschuss (Stuga) sowie freiwilliges zivilgesellschaftliches Engagement sind beim Modulverantwortlichen, Herrn Schmidt-Semisch, einzureichen. Dieser prüft die jeweilige Leistung und meldet sie an das Prüfungsamt.

Summary: In the 21st century, humanity is facing an increase of global social and health inequalities. Thus, it is important to understand both the historical perspective and the current political structures that created and perpetuated these inequalities. Through a critical approach, this course examines the causes and the consequences of global health inequalities and applies this knowledge to two current crises: the socioecological crisis and climate emergency and the socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Long-term care describes the need for assistance with daily living – for instance, showering, eating, or cleaning – due to physical and/or mental impairment. Compared to social risks such as sickness or loss of income due to work injuries or old-age, long-term care is a rather novel and emerging field of social policy making. This novelty makes it a challenging but also highly interesting and relevant field of welfare state studies. The largest group in need of long-term care are old-aged people. Therefore, with the global trend of population ageing, the demand and the need for public policies addressing long-term care is increasing not only in Europe but also in other parts of the world.
Additionally, traditional care arrangements where (mostly) women take informally care of family members are increasingly at odds with rising female labour market participation, mobility, and feminist ideas.
In the seminar we will review and discuss the developments in long-term care policies from a global perspective. We will start off with defining long-term care as a social policy field and contemplate its historical emergence as a welfare state “latecomer”. During the seminar, we will take a closer look at the key dimensions of long-term care systems and compare different types of systems: How are long-term care systems regulated and financed, and what are the challenges in the provision of long-term care? What differences exist between regions and countries and how can these differences be explained? Furthermore, we will also highlight a selection of current global trends such as care migration, marketization of care, the changing role of families and the way international interdependencies shape national long-term care policies.
