Soyeon Jin was until 2020 a Ph.D. candidate at the lab "Computational Communication and Democracy" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yannis Theocaris. She studied master of arts, sociology at the University of Mannheim, Germany. During her study, she worked as a student assistant at the team survey design and methodology, from GESIS (Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences).
She studied Media Communication and Sociology at Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea for her bachelor while she involved in several feminist campaigns as a researcher at the organization "Womenlink" and "Korea Cyber Sexual Violence Response Center". After finishing her bachelor's degree, she worked as a digital media manager for a year at politics Start-up "WAGL", which dedicate to promoting citizens' political participation using digital tools.
Her research interest lies in controversy, social media, grass-roots democracy, immigrant & integration, gender, analytical sociology, big data, machine learning, longitudinal data analysis, and quantitative research. She aims to investigate the influence of controversies in the digital era during her Ph.D.
